St Joachim's Pilgrims of Hope in Rome
During their pilgrimage to Rome, our Year 5 pupils had an incredible opportunity to visit some of the most significant holy sites in the Eternal City. They explored the tombs of St. Peter and St. Paul and were honoured to celebrate Mass at the tomb of St. Peter in the crypt of St. Peter’s Basilica, presided over by Fr. Dan and The children also visited the English College and Beda College, where Fr. Stephen Wang, the rector of the English College, guided them through its rich history and revealed the holy relics of the martyrs beneath the altar during Mass. Throughout their journey, they visited all four major basilicas—St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, St. Peter’s Basilica, and St. Paul Outside the Walls—along with many other stunning churches, each filled with breath-taking religious artwork and deep historical significance. Beyond the religious experience, the children also delved into ancient Roman history, exploring the ruins of the mighty Colosseum and the beauty of the Trevi Fountain. Their journey was both spiritual and educational, giving them a deeper appreciation of their faith and the historical roots of Christianity. Of course, no trip to Rome would be complete without indulging in plenty of delicious pizza and pasta!
