On Thursday 28th March, our chess team took part in a Newham competition against 4 other schools. Each team consisted of 5 players and each child played 5 games. Despite our team trying to pretend to Mr Allen that they had not won, they had actually won emphatically, just as they did last year! Player of the tournament was Anwulika who managed to win 5 games out of 5.
The standard of chess at St. Joachim’s continues to be very strong. Last week two of our girls, Anwulika and Laurelle, represented East London and Essex in the all England chess championships. The team came first and so our two girls now have chess trophies at national level. This is an amazing feat and something we all ore so proud of. We should at this point not forget to recognise that our children have met these remarkable standards through the excellent coaching of Mr Dybowski. We are so proud of all our chess players.
