Pilgrimage to Walsingham 2017
On Wednesday the 20th September, year 6 enjoyed a pilgrimage to ‘The National Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham’.
An annual event, the visit is part of a collaboration with St Helen’s Catholic Primary School and Our Lady of Grace Academy.
It was an extremely insightful trip and a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about ‘England’s Nazareth’.
They visited the 14th century Slipper Chapel, where the children were able to offer prayers and petitions to Our Lady and were reunited with Father John, a past Parish Priest, during Mass at the Chapel of Reconciliation.
After lunch, children were able to visit the fourteen stations whilst following ‘The Way of the Cross’ and enjoy a tour of the serene grounds of the shrine. Before leaving, there was an opportunity for reflection and contemplation as the children of both schools walked ‘The Pilgrim Way’ – the final holy mile pilgrims would have taken before reaching the Holy House in Walsingham village.
